The Keyport Ministerium (KMFP) and the Board of Trustees announce completion of our first year in the new O.O. John Reed Community Center that has been built on the property of The Community Church at 42 Elizabeth St. in the historic borough of Keyport, NJ.

Improved facility and programs
This project represents a unique public/private partnership and a culmination of ten years of planning to create a new, larger facility that serves as an anchor for social services, education programs, and food distribution to over 260 families per month from more than 20 towns in the Monmouth County Bayshore area. The pantry had previously been operating at St. Mary’s the Virgin Episcopal Church in Keyport for many years.

Recognizing the need to improve upon the inadequate space at its previous location, the pantry now addresses clients with increased confidentiality through private office space, expanded its refrigeration and freezer capabilities and added public restrooms and space for donated clothing. The new facility will also allow the pantry to enlarge its volunteer base. The new 2403 square foot O.O. John Reed Community Center will house numerous programs sponsored by the Ministerium.

The KMFP will manage the Community Center through generous donations and support from nine local churches and contributions from our many dedicated patrons. The project to create the new facility began in 2005. In 2011 the County approved a Community Development Block Grant for $134,375 in matching funds to be used towards the construction. The Community Church has provided the land for the Center for $1 per year lease to the KMFP. Engineering, Architects and legal services were provided pro bono. Many volunteers were on hand to assist with construction of the facility.

Christmas Gifts - Gift card distribution ongoing. We still have gifts that will be distributed this week, (Jan 6th is Three Kings Day, which is also known to many as Little Christmas and is celebrated by the Spanish population, Día de Los Tres Reyes). All sponsored gifts were distributed.

Christmas Trees - Several  artificial Christmas Trees that were purchased last year have been distributed.

Holiday and Regular Food Donations - are always welcomed. If you wish to make a donation please contact Sherry Hill, KMFP Associate Director - Tuesdays, and Thursdays, 9:30 AM - 11:30 AM on (732) 888-1986. Due to our limited freezer space if you would like to donate turkeys, hams, etc. we would ask that you please contact Sherry first.
