We have had past clients come to us after more than five (5) years of not requiring our services because they cannot make ends meet. The number of clients telling us that their house is in foreclosure or that they don’t have money to pay the rent and face possible eviction is overwhelming. These are just a few of the things that our Registrar (Maria Connors) hears every week. She refers these families to government and private agencies in hope that they will be able to receive the assistance they so desperately need. These are very trying times for all of us but can you even begin to imagine the hardships that most of these families are currently facing? The families that come to us are at poverty or below poverty level incomes to start off with and now their situation has worsened. Usually after the holidays the number of families we serve decreases slightly but this has not been the case thus far. We would like to share some statistics with you.
We believe the numbers indicated above speak for themselves. Our organization has and will continue, to the best of our ability, assist these families by ensuring that they have food and offer them referrals for their additional needs.
This month’s message is brief but we thought it was important to give our readers a perspective on what our organization, as a small entity, is doing to assist those that come to us. You are always welcomed to visit our facility if you would like to obtain more information on our operation and meet our volunteers.
From all of us at the Keyport Ministerium Food Pantry and the clients we serve our heartfelt thanks to all of you for your continued support – we cannot do it without YOU.
