A Message from the Executive Director
February 2009

Isaiah G. Cooper

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Please spread the word!   In January 2009 we mailed letters of appeal for our New Building Project to current and prospective donors requesting their financial support toward our building fund. Our appeal has generated immediate responses and we are certain we will receive many more.  If you did not receive our appeal but would like to help us please go to the New Building Project page for letter and form.

The Keyport and Aberdeen Stop and Shop has for the fourth year in a row shown their commitment and support to our organization by their very generous donations.  We want to publicly say Thank You to the Store Managers, all the employees and patrons of both stores that made this possible.  As a small token of our gratitude each store received a Certificate of Appreciation.

The Alan Shawn Feinstein Challenge to Fight Hunger starts next month.  The challenge will run from March 1st to April 30th.  We received an overwhelming response last year and hope to receive it again this year.  Visit www.feinsteinfoundation.org for full details.  If you require any additional information regarding the challenge and how you can help us please contact KMFP Associate Director Marge Conway during our hours of operation.
We had the honor of having Freeholder Amy Mallet and her Confidential Aide Keith Rella visit our pantry on January 29th.  Freeholder Mallet was able to see our operation first hand and meet some of our volunteers.  Thank you Freeholder Mallet and Keith your visit was truly and deeply appreciated.

We would like to thank Melissa Gaffney, Senior Staff Writer for the Courier Newspaper, for her time in doing such a great cover story on our organization. Visit the Courier News web site  to read the story.

KMFP has great supporters that conduct fundraising events throughout the year and we ask that you please support their events.  Please contact one of their representatives for additional information.

Volunteers are an organization’s greatest assets and without them organizations like ours would not exist. Here is just an example of what some of our volunteers do to keep our organization going. The gentlemen pictured below pick up bakery items donated by Costco (Hazlet) and Starbucks (Matawan) very early on pantry days every week so that our clients can enjoy some extra treats. This is in addition to all the other work they do for the pantry.  Al and Ben, thank you for all your time and commitment to our organization it is truly appreciated.

Behind the scenes – there are always people that although you don’t see them every day are always there when you call upon them without any hesitation.  We are fortunate to have such a person.  As you might be aware if you visit our website regularly it is updated and maintained on a regular basis and we owe this to our Webmaster Byron Shafer.  He has been volunteering his technical expertise to our organization for quite some time and for this we are truly grateful.  Byron, thank you for all your hard work in making sure we have a “Top Notch” website, and for always being there when we need your assistance.

Byron Shafer

As always we cannot say thank you enough for all the support and assistance we receive from all of YOU and as such I thought this quote was appropriate to end this month’s message.
