This month marks two (2) years since the launching of the Executive Message. The purpose of the monthly message is to keep our readers informed as much as possible of things we consider to be of importance and we hope we have accomplished our goal. As always we welcome your feedback/comments.
The organizations that provide assistance to needy families need your help. We would ask that you take a few minutes to contact your legislators and ask that they take action on the Farm Bill. More information is available in this document: Farm Bill Action Needed, or visit the Hunger Action Center web site: hungeractioncenter.org
We have been providing preliminary food stamp screenings since May 2005 and we continue to provide this service, therefore feel free to contact us to learn more about the Food Stamp pre-screening process. Remember: You do not have to be a pantry client.
The Red Bank Fall 2007 CROP Hunger Walk will take place on Sunday, October 21st. Our organization benefits from this event therefore we ask that you do whatever you can to support this great effort. To learn more visit: http://www.cwscrop.org/newjersey/crop
“Trick or Treat”! Yes, October 31st is around the corner. Make sure you have plenty of treats for the children to enjoy. Happy Halloween!
Our latest status:
- On September 19th our registrar and I attended the “Partners in the Fight to End Hunger” forum hosted by the Foodbank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties. The distinguished panel of speakers consisted of the following:
Vicki Escarra – President & CEO of America’s Second Harvest, the Nation’s Food Bank Network
Yvette Jackson – USDA Regional Administrator of Food & Nutrition Service, Mid-Atlantic Region
Jennifer Velez – Commissioner of the NJ Department of Human Services
Charles M. Kuperus – Secretary of the NJ Department of Agriculture.
Each one of the speakers provided information on their respective area. One thing we found reassuring was that they were all focused on the same goals. We found the forum to be very informative and hope that more of these types of forums are conducted in the future.
- As of October 1, 2007 we have not yet received feedback on our Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) application but hope to do so soon.
- We have distributed numerous backpacks and other school supplies to our client’s children throughout the month and would like to share a thank you note we received from one of the children. (Comments) We would like to say thank you to those of you that donated school supplies.
- We continue our research on Federal, State and Local grants that are available and submit applications whenever we meet the criteria.
- We continue to receive donations toward our new building fund.
If you have any questions, comments, etc. please feel free to contact us via email or call us. As always the KMFP Staff and Volunteers are truly grateful for all your support.
Thank you!
